Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition (TWIMC) is one of the region's outstanding cultural gems, and it is the general view that the 2018 Competition was the best to date.
The list of winners over the years fully demonstrates the success of the Competition in attracting the very best young musicians and helping them establish themselves in their careers.
Our 2006 winner, brilliant Lithuanian pianist Martyna Jatkauskaite, has gone on to play at the Cadogan, Royal Festival and Wigmore Halls, and the Barbican. Our winner in 2008 was the outstanding Ukrainian pianist, Sasha Grynyuk. Both went on to win the Guildhall School of Music's coveted Gold Medal. Our 2010 winner Savitri Grier won Oxford University's first ever concerto competition and in May 2015 was selected as a YCAT performer. She has already performed in France, Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands as well as the UK, where she has performed widely, including at the Royal Albert Hall. Alexander Ullman (2012) is now similarly a YCAT artist and has already developed a career as a soloist throughout Europe, China, Canada and the USA. Engagements in this country include recitals at the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, Kettles Yard Cambridge, the Bath Festival and St David's Hall Cardiff, with the Cardiff Philharmonic.
The Competition now regularly attracts competitors from all over the world: besides the UK, eastern and western Europe, the USA, Canada, China, Japan, and Australia.
