2021 Competition Piano, Strings, Wind (including Brass)

The postponed Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition will be returning to the Mayfield Festival of Music and the Arts in 2021.

The Competition will take place on Wednesday 28 April – Saturday 1 May 2021. Further details to follow shortly.


In addition to their section prize, the overall winner will receive the Hans and Mary Romney cash prize of £2,000, making a total of £3,500. They will also have a concerto opportunity at the Mayfield Festival in 2023, a recital at Sutton Valence Music Club and a Master Class presentation at Mayfield School.

The winner of each Section will receive a cash prize of £1,500 and a recital opportunity at St. Martin in the Fields, London. The Strings winner will receive a concerto opportunity with the Tonbridge Philharmonic Orchestra in 2020 and the Piano winner will receive a recital opportunity with the Haywards Heath Music Society in September 2021 Canterbury Music Club and Crowborough Arts will each offer a performance opportunity to a section winner, to be decided after the Finals. Other performance opportunities will be offered.

The second prize winner in each section will receive a cash prize of £1,000.

The third prize winner in each section will receive a cash prize of £500.

Message from the Competition Chair

We hope you will enter the Competition and that you will find our rules easy to understand. A high standard is expected at all stages in this event, which has been held since 1979. The 2021 Competition will face new challenges because of the coronavirus pandemic but we are committed to provide this opportunity to support and encourage young musicians at the start of their professional careers. A warm welcome awaits you at the Mayfield Festival. I should like to wish you every success in this TWIMC 2021 Competition.
