2022 Competition Piano, Strings (not plucked), Wind (including Brass)

The Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition will be returning to the Mayfield Festival of Music and the Arts in 2022.

The Competition will take place as part of the Mayfield Festival during the week beginning April 25th 2022.

TOTAL CASH PRIZES IN EXCESS OF £10,000 PLUS RECITAL AND CONCERTO OPPORTUNITIES

In addition to their section prize, the overall winner will receive the Hans and Mary Romney cash prize of £2,000, making a total of £3,500. They will also have a concerto opportunity at the Mayfield Festival in 2024, and a Master Class presentation at Mayfield School.

The winner of each Section will receive a cash prize of £1,500 and a recital opportunity at St. Martin in the Fields, or a venue of similar standing in London. The Wind winner will receive a concerto opportunity with the Tonbridge Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022 and the Piano winner will receive a recital opportunity with the Haywards Heath Music Society. Canterbury Music Club and Crowborough Arts will each offer a performance opportunity to a section winner, to be decided after the Finals.

The nine Finalists will be given the opportunity to give a recital on 15 October 2022 at St Dunstan's Church, Mayfield.

The three secdion winners will be invited to give a recital containing works for solos, duets and trios at the 2024 Mayfield Festival.

Other performance opportunities will be offered.

The second prize winner in each section will receive a cash prize of £1,000.

The third prize winner in each section will receive a cash prize of £500.

In addition, the three section winners will receive support from the Tunbridge Wells Competition Grant Scheme to assist them in getting performance opportunities in the two years following their win. Subject to certain conditions, the Grant Scheme will pay half of the performer’s fees to concert promoters for up to four concerts per winner in each subsidised year.

We hope you will enter the Competition and that you will find our rules easy to understand. A high standard is expected at all stages in this event, which has been held since 1979. The 2022 Competition will provide a unique opportunity to support and encourage young musicians at the start of their professional careers. A warm welcome awaits you at the Mayfield Festival.
